Organizational Structure

Council

The Council is composed of three Professors of Physiology representing the Universities of Berne, Geneva and Zurich. The member from Berne presides.

The responsibilities of the council are as follows:

to exercise direction and control over the property and affairs of the foundation;
to adopt by-laws and ensure that their requirements are met by the various bodies and personnel of the foundation;
to indemnify members for any liability arising from their work on behalf of the foundation;
to appoint members of the prize committee and the board of directors;
to select the prize winners together with the scientific advisors of the prize committee.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is elected by the council of the foundation and is composed of one to several administrators of the property of the foundation. A secretary draws the minutes of each meeting of the council and the prize committee.

Prize Committee

The Prize Committee issues the nomination form and evaluates the nominees. In order to ensure adequate coverage of a specialty of particular significance in a given year, consultants may be added. Consultants are non-voting.

The prize winners are selected by the prize committee and the council who make the final decision.
